Mac Danzig (21-9-1) vs. Efrain “Hecho en Mexico” Escudero (19-4)


Round 1: Escudero starts the action with a few leg kicks. Danzig pushes Escudero onto the fence and works an inside Muay Thai clinch. Escudero lands a nice short elbow and Danzig responds by taking him down. On their way down Escudero catches Danzig in a heel hook and works for a better grip. Danzig rolls out of the leg lock and spins onto his feet. They square back up with 3:00 left in the round. They exchange a few combinations. Danzig is controlling the cage and stalking Escudero into the cage. They battle for wrist control and underhooks, but neither fighter is causing any damage. Danzig delivers a solid knee, steps out and locks back up against the cage. Escudero slides down for a takedown, by Danzig isn’t having it. Escudero backs off and there’s the horn.

Round 2: Danzig comes out pushing the action and controlling the space. Danzig backs Escudero into the cage and delivers big knees into his thighs. Escudero has some defense, but no offense. Danzig lets him away from the cage to trade some jabs. Escudero’s timing is off. Each time he tries to throw a combination, Danzig steps into it with one of his own. 2:00 left in the round and Danzig continues to control space and back Escudero into the cage. Danzig delivers a few solid kidney punches while he has him against the fence, then backs out to trade jabs again. Escudero still can’t find his timing. Danzig pushes him back into the fence with some repeated blows to Escudero’s kidneys. Escudero looks for a takedown in the last :10, but comes up short.

Round 3: Escudero comes out a little more aggressive, but Danzig is in a rhythm. Danzig keeps him at bay with inside leg kicks and an occasional high kick. Escudero looks frustrated and Danzig pushes him back against the cage for some more solid knees to his thigh. As Escudero tries to escape the clinch, Danzig tries a couple fancy take downs that fall flat. Danzig is starting to look like he’s practicing with a sparring partner and experimenting with various moves — a standing guillotine and a standing side mount to get to get to his back. Escudero finds his way out of it and Danzig imposes his will again against the fence. More knees and kidney punches from Danzig. They trade a couple jabs and the final horn blows.
