Gonzaga & Dunham out of UFC 146

Gabe Gonzaga and Evan Dunham have suffered injuries that UFC promotion officials announced late Tuesday night will cause them to withdraw from their fights in UFC 146 due to take place May 26th at MGM in Las Vegas.

Gabriel Gonzaga was scheduled to fight Roy “Big Country” Nelson in a heavyweight bout on the main card.  Evan Dunham was going to face undefeated Edson Barboza in a lightweight fight.

Nelson will now face Dave Herman who is 1-1 in the UFC.  Herman won his UFC debut vs John Olav Einemo at UFC 131, and lost by TKO in the second round to Stefan Struve at UFC on Fuel TV’s Sanchez vs Ellenberger fight card.

Barboza has gone 4-0 in the UFC and will now fight Jamie Varner (19-6-1, MMA).  This will mark Varner’s return to the UFC, he last fought for the promotion in March 2007 and went 1-1 in his first UFC stint.  Since the WEC folded, Varner has fought for the Xtreme Fighting Championship (XFC), winning both of his fights in the promotion.
