MMA Update: Fight Announcements

[singlepic id=964 w=320 h=240 float=left]UFC 147 &  148 –  According to mmajunkie.com, Patrick Cote (17-7, MMA) will face Cung Le (7-2, MMA) at UFC 148. This will mark Patrick Cote’s return to the UFC after being cut after his loss to Tom Lawlor. He’s currently riding a 4 fight win streak. The fight will take place on July 7th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Cote was brought into fight Le after Rich Franklin (28-6, MMA) was moved to fight in the main event of UFC 147.  Franklin will now get his rematch against Wanderlei Silva (34-11-1, 1NC).  Their first fight was at UFC 99 and Franklin took home the unanimous decision win.  He steps in for Vitor Belfort who broke his hand and had surgery. UFC President Dana White revealed the news of Belfort’s injury at the UFC 146 post fight press conference.

 

UFC on FOX 4 – News came today that Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis will not fight Chad Griggs. Reportedly, Griggs suffered an undisclosed injury and will not be able to make his debut at light heavyweight after all. Sherdog.com confirmed the news after MMAWeekly.com made the inital report.

“Mr. Wonderful” will instead fight Wagner Prado (8-0, MMA), an undefeated prospect who will make his UFC debut against Davis.  Davis last fought on UFC on FOX 2 and lost to Rashad Evans via unanimous decision.

The fight takes place Aug 4th in Los Angeles at the Staples Center.
