Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey is set to defend her title for the first time vs Sarah Kaufman on August 18th in San Diego,CA. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker confirmed the news on today’s conference call for Strikeforce: Rockhold vs Kennedy.
“I want to say the rumors that have been out there for some time are true,” Coker said. “Ronda Rousey will in fact meet former champion Sarah Kaufman.”
“Rowdy” Ronda Rousey has lived up to the hype and even believes women will soon be seen fighting in the UFC. Perhaps if she and Kaufman can put up an action packed, non-stop thrill ride, maybe we will. Rousey is 5-0 in her MMA career and has won all of her pro fights by armbar submission. She won the Strikeforce belt after defeating Miesha Tate in March.
Sarah Kaufman (15-1) has been regarded as the #1 contender in the women’s division and will finally get her shot at Rousey who should be her toughest test to date.
Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Derek Brunson will also face off in a middleweight bout on the card as reported by MMAWeekly.com.
