Josh Koscheck Injured & Out of UFC 151

UFC Tonight announced Tuesday that Josh Koscheck has a bulging disc in his back and won’t be able to fight Jake Ellenberger at UFC 151. No timetable for his return was announced in the report.

UFC 151 is set for September 1st at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, NV.  The headlining event is Jon Jones vs. Dan Henderson for the UFC Light Heavyweight  Championship.

Koscheck had come off of back to back wins to Matt Hughes and Mike Pierce, respectively, before suffering a split decision loss to Johny Hendricks at UFC on FOX 3 in May.

Ellenberger is coming off a second round knockout loss at The Ultimate Fighter Finale in June to Martin Kampmann.  He hadn’t lost in the UFC since his 2009 debut where he fought Carlos Condit.

Prior to being matched up with Ellenberger, “Kos” had called out BJ Penn on Twitter.  It would be interesting to see BJ Penn get matched up with Ellenberger since Rory MacDonald also suffered an injury and had to withdraw from their upcoming bout at UFC 152. Penn didn’t accept the fight against Kos when he called him out.
