When Invicta 3 takes place on October 6 in Kansas City, Kansas, two women will be facing off in a bantamweight title eliminator. The winner will move on to face Sara McMann for the Invicta Fighting Championship’s Bantamweight Title. Invicta FC CEO Shannon Knapp confirmed the news with Heidi Fang of MMA Fight Corner via Twitter.
After the 13 fight lineup for Invicta 3 was announced, Shannon hinted in a tweet to @heidifang that the bantamweight fight between Shayna Baszler and Sarah D’Alelio would be a title eliminator to determine who would face Sara McMann for the Invicta FC Bantamweight Title.

Today, Knapp confirmed with Heidi that that’s exactly what she’s doing in an e-mail. The bantamweight fight at Memorial Hall between Sarah D’Alelio (6-2) and Shayna Baszler (14-7) will be a title eliminator. “The winner will fight for Sara for the title,” Knapp’s e-mail read.
When Shannon was a guest of MMA Fight Corner on August 4th, she announced that she would consider a title eliminator at Invicta 3 at bantamweight to determine who will fight Sara McMann (6-0) for the title. Currently, McMann is recovering from an injury suffered in her unanimous decision win over Shayna Baszler. Knapp added that McMann had an injury she was recovering from coming into Invicta 2 and said some extra time off couldn’t hurt.
Sara and Shayna fought a 3 round battle that went to decision. The decision was unanimous all in favor of McMann (29-28 McMann, 30-27 McMann and 29-28 McMann.)
During an interview on MMA Fight Corner, the hosts pointed out one of the judges score cards in the McMann-Baszler fight reflected a 30-27, which Knapp agreed wasn’t accurate judging of the bout. She then came up with an idea to make fans of Baszler happy. “How about this, you know, hypothetically…What if I put Baszler against somebody else to vie for that shot to go against Sara for the championship?” The hosts agreed that sounded like a great idea.
Headlining the Invicta 3 card is the first ever Invicta FC World Title at Atomweight. American sensation Jessica Penne (9-1) will square off against Japan’s Naho “Sugi Rock” Sugiyama (8-0) of Kyoto in the promotion’s main event at Memorial Hall in Kansas City on October 6. Tickets for the event will go on sale soon.
