Ronda Rousey: Says She’ll Choke Kaufman Til She’s Dead

Strikeforce Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey never did hold much back when it came to speaking her mind. She plans to hold onto the belt no matter what the cost, no matter who’s limbs interfere with her plan to seek and destroy and she’ll threaten anyone who steps in her way.

At yesterday’s Strikeforce news conference, Ronda held nothing back in her verbal onslaught of threats towards Sarah Kaufman – an opponent who unlike Miesha Tate, Rousey claims to respect.  But when it came down to Ronda’s intentions inside the hexagon on Saturday the sharp witted Rousey put out words that may have gone beyond your average smack talk.

“She may not know it, but she should be thanking her lucky stars that MMA is properly regulated in California – because I respect her so much I’m not taking any chances,” Rousey said. “If I get her in an armbar, I’m going to try to rip it off and throw it at her corner. If I get her in a choke, I’m going to hold onto it until she’s actually dead. And if I get a knockout, I’m going to go all the way. I’m going to try to pound her face into the ground and she’s depending on the competence of the California Athletic Commission to walk out of that cage alive.”

Sarah Kaufman’s response to Rousey’s threats was a lot more reserved than anticipated.  The challenger to the Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight belt seemed to brush the words off her shoulder as though sticks and stones couldn’t break her bones. She smiled back at the media and answered the next question as though Rousey’s words hadn’t gotten to her at all.

“I feel really confident going into this fight,” Kaufman said. “And I’m confident that Ronda’s going to bring it. She’s going to show up to fight. She’s going to try to kill me – which is kind of mean. But that’s all right. At the end of the day, someone’s going to walk out with the belt – and I want that person to be me.”

The main event of Saturday’s Strikeforce card will be the showdown between Rousey and Kaufman. The prelims begin at 8pm ET/5pm PT on Showtime Extreme.  The main card starts at 10pm ET/7pm PT.
