ONE FC 5 – Arlovsky-Sylvia 4 Ends in Controversy, Baroni & Fernandes Earn W’s

[singlepic id=224 w=320 h=240 float=left]The fourth time Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski faced off at ONE FC 5 didn’t produce the results many had hoped for between the two heavyweights.  Their fight ended in a controversial No Contest due to illegal soccer kicks.

The action in the first round started off with Arlovski slugging away until Sylvia began using the clinch in attempt to stifle Arlovski’s striking.  The clinch was broken up a few times because of lack of action.

In the second round, Arlovski unleashed soccer kicks to Sylvia after knocking him down. Referee Yuji Shimada then stopped the fight, in what some thought was the end to the fight. Instead, it was a temporary stoppage. As it turns out, soccer kicks were not permitted at the time Arlovski unleashed them. Referee Shimada issued Arlovski a yellow card for the kicks.

At the intermission, Sylvia told the ref that he could not see and therefore could not continue to fight.  The fight was called and declared a No Contest.

Bantamweight stand out Bibiano Fernandes also won his bout over Gustavo Falciroli winning via Unanimous Decision.Fernandes smothered Falciroli and owned dominant positions throughout the fight.

Former UFC fighter Phil Baroni also took home a round one TKO win. Baroni soccer kicked his way through Rodrigo Ribeiro to bring home the W.
