World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo confirmed on MMA Fight Corner on Saturday that kickboxing phenom Tyrone Spong will join the promotion and will be a part of it’s debut on November 3rd. Though it was recently announced days ago that Spong would make his MMA debut with Titan FC on November 2nd, it had been rumored on Twitter today that the Dutch kickboxer who trains with the Blackzilians would join the WSOF. We first spotted the news from @FrontRowBrian.

MMA Fight Corner: “I heard a rumor today that Tyrone Spong is coming to the World Series of MMA, is this true?”

Ray Sefo: “That is very true.”

Sefo said Spong’s opponent has yet to be announced, but he’s suggested the former K-1 standout up could fight former UFC fighter, James McSweeney in a light heavyweight bout. “I think that fight, if it happens, it’s going to be fight of the night,” Sefo said.

There was no information revealed as to what had happened with Titan FC and Spong’s announcement that he’d make his MMA debut on November 2nd.

The WSOF’s first event is set to take place at the PH Live in the Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on November 3rd and features former WEC Bantamweight Champion Miguel Torres in the main event. Other well known MMA fighters like Rolles Gracie and Gregor Gracie have also been signed with the new Vegas promotion that will have it’s debut aired live on NBC Sports Network and Sefo confirmed a few more are on the way.

“We’re also in the midst of finalizing Bobby Lashley’s contract and there’s a few guys in the prelims like Las Vegas local John Gunderson against JZ Calvacante,” Sefo said. “It’s a great opportunity for John to come back also. Two fights ago, I saw the best of him then and I think he still has a lot more to show. After talking to him a few days ago, I think he’s really hungry and he’s going to show something different and show that he’s going to let it all hang out there.”

In addition to the headliners, WSOF will feature some prospects like Brenson Hansen (3-1, MMA). “Nobody knows of him yet, but believe you me, people are going to know him fast,” Sefo promised. “We’re trying to also build some young and up and comers.”

As a new company that just had a press conference this past Thursday to announce it’s organizations first event, Sefo said the company goal is simple. “Right now our focus is to just to provide opportunities to fighters who are not contracted anywhere else or aren’t contracted to the UFC. I have a great relationship of the UFC. I got nothing but love and respect for Dana White and Lorenzo and the UFC group,” Sefo said. “We’re learning as we go, we’re just trying to provide opportunities to those who aren’t in the UFC.”

“And also, one of the things I stressed loudly and clearly to the fighters is that this is a fighter and fan organization first. My job is to look after the fighters and make sure that they are treated fairly and honestly and looked after well. I’m a fighter myself, if the fighters are not happy with where they are, I’m not going to let them go. I’m not going to hold them back and try and draw out their contract or whatever because what’s the point if they’re not happy, why have them there?”
