In a report by MMAFighting.com sources close to the UFC 153 event have disclosed to Ariel Helwani that Frankie Edgar will not be a part of the card.
It was first reported last week that Jose Aldo was in a motorcycle accident in Brazil and suffered only minor injuries including a foot injury. It was initially thought that the injury wouldn’t prevent him from fighting Edgar on October 13 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but Aldo withdrew after realizing he wouldn’t be fully healed by time the fight took place.
Frankie was a late replacement for the main event after Aldo’s original opponent, Erik Koch, suffered a knee injury. It’s uncertain at this time if Aldo vs Edgar will be rescheduled for a later date.
It was also reported by MMAFighting.com that Chael Sonnen’s manager said Sonnen will not fight at UFC 153 either. Rumors had circulated that Sonnen may face Wanderlei Silva in the main event, but according to Sonnen’s manager, Mike Roberts, Sonnen was not contacted to fight at UFC 153.
Sonnen remains slated to fight Forrest Griffin at UFC 155 in Las Vegas on December 29th.
No main event or co-main event for UFC 153 has been reported at this time.
