UFC 155 has added a high powered middleweight bout to the UFC’s end of the year event in Las Vegas, NV on December 29th, a rematch between Alan Belcher (18-6, MMA) and Yushin Okami (27-7, MMA). The matchup was confirmed by UFC officials earlier today.
Belcher and Okami faced once before in their career debuts at UFC 62 six years ago. Okami defeated Belcher via unanimous decision.
Belcher was slated to fight Vitor Belfort in UFC 153 until Belfort pulled out to fight Jon Jones for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. Belcher then tweeted that Belfort going to fight Jones “was a blessing in disguise” as he had suffered a fractured spine. “The Talent” has been on a 4-fight win streak, but hasn’t fought much in the past few years due to various injuries. He most recently defeated Rousimar Palhares with a first round TKO at UFC on FOX 3 in May.
Yushin Okami is coming off of a much needed win over Buddy Roberts at UFC 150 via second round TKO. Prior to that win, Okami had dropped two in a row to Anderson Silva and Tim Boetsch, respectively. For both fighters, this will be a test to see who can advance to the next level and get one step closer to UFC Middleweight Champion, Anderson Silva.
UFC 155 will be headlined by a rematch between UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior dos Santos vs Cain Velasquez. Also on the card will be another middleweight contender’s bout between Chris Weidman and Tim Boetsch.
