UPDATE: Details of Stephens’ arrest has been updated by the Minneapolis Police Department. He’s listed as in custody without bail due to an out of state felony charge. The arrest warrant came from the state of Iowa, where Stephens is originally from.
Aaron Simpson vs Mike Pierce will air on the FUEL preliminary card.
Dana White also Tweeted just minutes ago:
“OMFG! YES Jeremy Stephens is fighting! At no point did ANYONE from UFC say he wasn’t. Some media jackasses said he wasn’t.”
According to a report by MMAJunkie.com, Jeremy Stephens was arrested in Minneapolis Friday morning. At first seemed that there was a possibility that Stephens would be released and the fight would go on, but word from media at the UFC on FX 5 in Minneapolis came across Twitter around the time the Facebook stream was supposed to start indicating that the Jeremy Stephens vs Yves Edwards fight had been removed from UFC.com‘s fight card.
There were no details about Stephens’ arrest released by the UFC, the Minneapolis Police Department or from Stephens camp detailing what happened. According MMAJunkie.com, 26-year-old Stephens arrived at the county detention center at 10:44 am on Friday morning. He’s being held without bail at the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility.
In light of Dennis Hallman being cut and released yesterday after failing to make weight and citing personal issues at home, if Stephens vs Yves Edwards is cancelled, it’d be the second fight on the card to be scrapped.
Assuming Stephens vs Edwards is in fact off, it would mean that Aaron Simpson vs Mike Pierce could wind up being televised on the FUEL TV prelims that start at 5pm ET/2pm PT. No official word from the UFC, or UFC President Dana White has been released stating the fight is cancelled or not.
Maybe the UFC can still pull of a miracle, you never know. He told MMA Junkie he still expects the fight to happen. Also, White posted on his Twitter account a couple of hours ago:
Don’t listen to the media! Nobody ever told them Jeremy isn’t fighting. He is fighting!!
