News from the TwitterVerse: Travis Browne Updates Injury Status, DaMarques Johnson Cut by UFC

After three fight losing streak in the UFC, DaMarques Johnson (16-12, MMA) was cut by the UFC. The welterweight fighter who was a competitor on The Ultimate Fighter season 9, announced the news on his Twitter account.

The news comes following a loss Johnson suffered at the hands of UFC newcomer Gunnar Nelson at UFC on FUEL TV 5. Johnson took the fight on just nine days notice after Nelson’s original opponent, Pascal Krauss withdrew due to injury. Though the two agreed on a 175 lb catchweight, Johnson also came in at 183 lbs., but the fight went on.

Though Johnson was submitted by Nelson, some have argued that the UFC should have considered the circumstances under which Johnson took the fight. As it was, Johnson had lost to Mike Swick via knockout at the UFC on FOX event just 56 days prior. Clearance to be able to train for Johnson came just 9 days prior to his fight with Nelson.

Also on Twitter, Travis Browne updated the status of the hamstring he tore in his fight with Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva this past Friday at UFC on FX 5.

The loss Browne suffered at the hands of Bigfoot was the first of his professional career.
