Team Quest’s Dan Henderson has been a training partner and friend of Chael Sonnen’s. But this time Chael’s ability to hype up a fight with his cunning words got him a title shot against Jon Jones who Dan Henderson was in line to fight next until he suffered an MCL injury.
Since Henderson announced his MCL injury and had to withdraw from UFC 151’s main event vs Jones, he’s been working to get back to full health and be able to fight. Jones even said that he would like to fight Henderson once he recovered.
When Henderson was injured, which ultimately began the downward spiral for UFC 151’s fight card, Sonnen offered to step up for the main event to fight Jon Jones. But Jones refused to fight Sonnen on short notice and the fight card was axed.
Here we are about a month and a half later with Jon Jones accepting The Ultimate Fighter 17 coaching job opposite Chael Sonnen and putting his title on the line in April 2013 against him. From the looks of his Twitter post, Henderson’s feeling like he was passed over and was most likely under the impression that he’d get to fight Jones next, once his MCL healed up. Henderson tweeted:
I guess I should just quit training to win fights and to be exciting for the fans and just go to sh*t talking school. @danawhite

What’s next for Henderson? Perhaps he and Machida will fight each other in what could be a bout that determines who the next title challenger is. Or maybe the winner of that fight takes the winner of Shogun Rua vs Alexander Gustafsson in a title eliminator. Only one thing is certain right now, Jones vs. Sonnen has officially shook up the 205 division.
