SB Nation Tampa Bay confirmed that UFC Featherweight Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier (12-2, MMA) has signed on to join American Top Team in Coconut Creek, FL.
With the move, Poirier will now train under 7th degree BJJ black belt, Ricardo Liborio who trained under Carlson Gracie. Also a coach at ATT, Howard Davis, Jr., a 1976 Olympic gold medalist in boxing.
The move places Poirier among some of the UFC’s top talent. Thiago Alves, George Sotiropoulous, Hector Lombard and other featherweight talent such as: Nik Lentz, Marcus Brimage and Mike Brown all train with ATT.
Formerly, the Carencro, Louisiana native, Poirier, worked with the Gladiators Academy in Southern Louisiana under Tim Creuder. For the better part of Poirier’s early career, he fought in the regional circuit in Lousiana where he went undefeated.
Though Poirier has not yet booked an upcoming fight, he is looking to rebound from the second loss of career suffered at the hands of “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung in May this year. Despite the loss, Poirier still earned Fight of the Night honors for his performance. Poirier is also currently being featured in a documentary titled “Fightville”.
