According to multiple sources, verbal agreements are in place for former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans (17-2-1 draw, MMA) to fight Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (20-5, MMA) on Super Bowl weekend which is being targeted for pay-per-view on Feb. 2, 2013. News of the bout was first reported by Brazil’s SporTV.
This will be the first time Evans has got back into the Octagon since losing a decision to Jon Jones in April at UFC 145 for the UFC light heavyweight title. Speculation that Rashad would drop to 185 had been spoken of, but this seems to confirm Evans’ desire to stay at light heavyweight.
Nogueira hasn’t fought since a TKO’ing Tito Ortiz last December at UFC 140. He’s been out of action rehabbing a knee injury that forced him to pull out of UFC on FUEL TV 2 against Alexander Gustafsson in April.
It is possible the fight card will be known as UFC 157’s pay-per-view which may happen in Las Vegas on Super Bowl weekend.
