The injury bug continues its nasty ravaging streak now taking out Swedish prospect Besam Yousef. Originally Yousef was slated to take one Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson who also injured himself. Days ago, Matt Riddle (6-3, 1 NC, MMA) came in as his replacement. Now, John Maguire (18-4, MMA) has answered the call to fill in on 17 days notice and will face Riddle in a welterweight bout on UFC 154’s card in Montreal, Canada.
Matt Riddle was last seen on UFC 149’s card and was suspended for 90 days following a positive test for marijuana. His win over Chris Clements was changed to a No Contest as a result. Now that his suspension has ended, Riddle looks to keep the W’s coming when he faces Maguire on November 17th.
Maguire will need to prove he can jump start the action when he faces Riddle. In his last outing at UFC on FUEL TV 5 in Nottingham, England, Maguire fought a very lackluster fight and didn’t start pouring it on until late in the third round. It was too little, too late for Maguire as he suffered a loss to John Hathaway in the fight where he was booed by his own countrymen.
Maguire and Riddle will be on the preliminary card on November 17 from Montreal’s Bell Centre. The main event features UFC welterweight champion, Georges St-Pierre, facing off against UFC interim welterweight champion, Carlos Condit.
