In what’s expected to be Strikeforce’s last card ever, sources close to the fighters told MMAjunkie.com on Thursday that Josh Barnett (31-6, MMA) is set to meet heavyweight Nandor Guelmino (11-3-1, MMA) on the main card of Strikeforce: Champions on January 12, 2013.
Barnett is coming off of a hard fought battle against Daniel Cormier in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix’s final in May. Barnett fell short of winning the tournament dropping a decision to Cormier in the five round battle. The 35-year-old heavyweight fighter had won 8 fights in a row prior to the loss.
Guelnimo is currently riding a 7-fight win streak with various MMA promotions. He last fought in the World Free Fight Challenge 17 card’s main event and defeated Emil Zahariev via unanimous decision. In his eleven wins, Guelnimo has 9 finishes, six by way of submission.
The event takes place Jan. 12 at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City and features only one championship bout as of now. Previously the card was stacked with a lightweight and middleweight championship fight until both champions pulled out of their fights.
Middleweight champ Luke Rockhold still has an injured wrist and will not face Lorenz Larkin as planned. Lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez still has a shoulder injury and won’t face Pat Healy.
Here is how the Strikeforce: Champions fight card looks as of now:

Daniel Cormier vs. Dion Staring
Gegard Mousasi vs. Mike Kyle
Josh Barnett vs. Nandor Guelmino
