According to a report by ESPN‘s Brett Okamoto, UFC officials have confirmed the booking of Michael Bisping (23-5, MMA) vs. Alan Belcher (18-7, MMA) for UFC 159. The middleweight bout is scheduled for the April 27th fight card at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey and will serve as the co-main event.
Michael Bisping will look to rebound after being knocked out in the second round by Vitor Belfort at UFC on FX 7, a loss which cost him a title shot. Bisping has never fought for a title in the UFC and has lost out on getting to the next level with losses in both title elimination fights.
Alan Belcher had been considered among the top contenders of the middleweight division until dropping a decision to Yushin Okami at UFC 155 in December. Belcher has struggled though injuries and had only fought once in 2010 and 2011 as a result. Regardless he had won four in a row until the loss to Okami.
UFC 159 will be headlined by a championship fight for the light heavyweight title between Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen. Tickets are on sale now.
