UFConFUEL TV 10 could potentially have a new bout added to the card. MMAMania.com has reported that featherweights Rodrigo Damm and Mizuto Hirota could face off that night. The event is scheduled to go down on June 8th and most likely in Fortaleza, Brazil. Since both fighters are coming off losses, to Antonio Carvalho and Rani Yahya respectively, the fighter who comes out on the losing end could see his future with the promotion go up in smoke. Both fighters were brought into the fold from Strikeforce and have had mixed results since joining the ranks of the UFC.
Damm started his UFC career on a high note, submitting Anistavio Medeiros by rear naked choke in the first round and earning “Submission of the Night” honors. From there, he would go on to lose by split decision to the aforementioned Carvalho. This will be his second fight for the UFC but his third under ZUFFA, going 1-2 thus far. Another loss would make it two in a row and could lead to his release from the promotion.
Hirota’s journey has been similar, losing two straight under ZUFFA, both by unanimous decision and the second two-fight losing streak of his career. One of those losses was in his home country of Japan. Since suffering a horrendous broken arm at the hands of Shinya Aoki in 2009, Hirota has gone 2-2. Just as with Damm, another loss could lead to his exit from the promotion. Considering this fight will take place in Brazil and both of Hirota’s recent losses coming by way of unanimous decision, Hirota certainly has his back against the wall coming into this bout.
The main event that night will be the two coaches from “TUF” Brazil 2 squaring off. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will take on Fabricio Werdum in a bout that could have title implications for Werdum should he emerge victorious.
