UFC on FUEL TV 9, the promotion’s second event to hit Sweden and sell out in a matter of mere hours, may have a crisis on its hands being that the main event draw, Swedish native, Alexander Gustafsson suffered a cut over his eye in training that could prevent him from being cleared to fight come April 6.
UFC President Dana White has since told the masses via Twitter and gave a report to Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting that the main event is not canceled and the fight will go on as planned as of now.
Several Swedish websites have reported the news, but have not confirmed that Gustafsson is unable to compete in the main event. Svt.se first reported the news. MMANYTT.SE has been updating the news from their sources every hour since the news was reported.
One of the reports from MMANYTT.se states that Swedish MMA Federation president Gorge Sallfeldt, along with two other doctors who examined the cut in photographs, don’t believe it’ll heal in time for the fight.
“The Mauler”, who has won six consecutive fights, was expected to clash with former Strikeforce standout Gegard Mousasi (33-3-2). Additionally, title implications were on the line if Gustafsson (15-1) won the bout. Following his win over Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Gustafsson rose to number two in the overall rankings.
Mousasi has been near perfect in his last six at 5-0-1. With only three losses on his pro MMA record, this would have been a huge test for Mousasi in competition.
UFC Middleweight Tom Lawlor has been campaigning to step in for Gustafsson against Mousasi on Twitter.
I know it is a longshot but hey, if Gus is injured I will fight Mousasi at 205 no problem @ufc

At this time there is no confirmation of this report from the UFC or from Gustafsson.
