Nick Diaz’s MMA promotion WAR announces 1st event

warNick Diaz’s MMA promotion, WAR, has announced its first official fight card is set for the Stockton Arena on June 22. Information about the event was released to media Wednesday afternoon.

The card will be headlined by welterweight Daniel Roberts (13-4) facing off against Justin Baesman (12-4) as per the press release distributed by SMG. The fight will be co-headlined by former UFC and WEC fighter Antonio Banuelos (20-9-1) against and Benny Vinson (4-1-1) fighting out of Portland, Oregon. The fight card will also feature Caleb Mitchell (4-3) vs. Evan Esguerra (7-5), Roy Boughton (8-3) vs. Liron Wilson (13-6), undefeated Mike Persons (4-0) vs. Clayton McKinney (4-2), and Darin Cooley (5-2) vs. Cody Gibson (8-3). More bouts will be announced in the upcoming days. The card is subject to change.

Tickets go on sale Wednesday, May 29th at 10am.

Nick Diaz, a former WEC and Strikeforce welterweight (170 lbs) champion, has headlined three UFC PPV cards (UFC 137, UFC 143, and UFC 158) since his return to the organization in 2011. He has previously fought in Pride and Elite XC (including a fight at the Stockton Arena) amongst other MMA promotions. This experience with multiple organizations gave Nick an interest to start his own promotion.

Bouts in WAR will be fought under the Unified Rules of MMA, modified to use a ring instead of a cage. Elbow strikes to a grounded opponent will not be allowed.  Regular matches will be three, five minute rounds, and future championship matches will be five, five minute rounds.
