UFC on FOX Sports 1’s second fight card on August 28 has a “Natural Born Killer” against a “Hitman” in the main event. Top ranked welterweights Carlos Condit (28-7, MMA) and Martin Kampmann (20-6, MMA) will meet in a rematch at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.
UFC officials announced that verbal agreements are in place via press release on Friday night.
When Condit made his UFC debut in April 2009, he was welcomed to the Octagon by the Danish kickboxer. In that main event at UFC Fight Night: Condit vs. Kampmann, Kampmann edged out the split decision victory. Four years later, former WEC Champion and former UFC interim champion, Carlos Condit, will get the opportunity to avenge his first loss in the UFC.
Condit’s had a rough road in his past two fights. For the first time in his career, he’s had back to back losses. Last November at UFC 154, Condit dropped a decision against Georges St-Pierre in a bout to unify the welterweight title. Then in a Fight of the Night performance, Condit faced Johny Hendricks in a title elimination bout and lost via unanimous decision.
Interestingly enough, Kampmann is also coming off of a loss to Hendricks which snapped a 3-fight win streak. Kampmann’s run included wins over Rick Story, Thiago Alves and Jake Ellenberger. In those wins he earned Submission of the Night and Fight of the Night for his wins over Alves and Ellenberger respectively.
Tickets will go on sale for the event beginning on June 14.
