News of the bout was announced late Thursday night by UFC officials.
Hall (7-3, MMA) will look to rebound from the split decision loss to Kelvin Gastelum at the TUF 17 finale. Heading into his official UFC debut, Hall was highly favored after scoring a string of jaw-dropping knockouts on the UFC’s flagship reality series. Most notably, Hall scored a knockout over Adam Cella with a powerful wheel kick that’s been regarded as one of the best finishes in TUF history.
Known for his striking and kickboxing prowess, Hall was unable to answer or stop Gastelum‘s takedowns throughout the fight. The other losses the middleweight has on his professional MMA record were also to men who also possess well-rounded ground skills, Chris Weidman and Costa Philippou. Since the Gastelum loss, Hall has moved on to improve that aspect of his game at Reign Training Center alongside the likes of Mark Muñoz.
Native Canadian Nick Ring (13-2, MMA) has gone 3-2 since being brought into the UFC’s fold. Against Chris Camozzi at UFC 158, Ring lost a split decision on his native soil. Prior to that loss, Ring defeated fellow TUF 11 cast member Court McGee by way of unanimous decision.
UFC on FOX Sports 1 1 has not officially announced a headlining event yet. However, Alistair Overeem vs. Travis Browne, Joe Lauzon vs. Michael Johnson and Matt Brown vs. Thiago Alves have all been announced to the Boston card emanating from the TD Garden on August 17.
