On September 4, FOX Sports 1: 3 will emanate from Belo Horizonte, Brazil according to a report by the Brazilian media outlet, Portal do Vale Tudo.
According to their report, two bouts have been verbally agreed upon to take place on the card. First, a light heavyweight tilt, originally scheduled for UFC 160, between Glover Teixeira and Ryan Bader. Also, a middleweight collision between top ranked contenders, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Yushin Okami is in place for the event.
Ryan Bader (15-3) was supposed to be Glover Teixeira’s (21-2) original opponent at UFC 160. However, Bader suffered an injury that forced him to withdraw from the bout. Instead, James Te Huna replaced Bader at the event. Bader last fought in January this year and defeated Vladimir Matyushenko via guillotine choke inside one minute of the first round.
With his first round submission victory over Te Huna at UFC 160, Teixeira catapulted his name into the top five of the light heavyweight division. Currently, the rising contender is on a 19-fight win streak as he heads in to face Bader.
“Jacare” Souza (18-3, 1 NC) made quick work of Chris Camozzi in his UFC debut. The former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion technically submitted Camozzi in the first round via arm-triangle choke. Currently, Souza holds a four-fight win streak to his name that includes three first round finishes. Souza will face his next challenge in the form of top ranked Okami.
Okami (29-7), a seven-year veteran of the organization and one-time title challenger, is riding a 3-fight win streak. Most recently, Okami brought home a split decision over Hector Lombard at UFC on FUEL TV 8. “Thunder” also holds wins over Buddy Roberts and Alan Belcher in that streak.
It was also reported late Friday night that Joseph Benavidez and Jussier Formiga are on tap for the event as well.
As of now, there is no venue announced for the event. We’ll continue to update the story as the information unfolds.
