Another injury struck the Invicta FC 6 fight card Wednesday. Featherweight Julia Budd suffered a neck injury and will be unable to square off opposite Ediane Gomes (10-2, MMA) at the July 13 event. Instead, Charmaine Tweet (4-3, MMA) will make her promotional debut in Kansas City, Missouri.
MMA Rising was the first to report the news and Invicta FC officials have since confirmed it.
“Not So Sweet” Tweet is a former Muay Thai champion who has won four of her last five scraps. The 36-year-old Canadian may be best known for her kickboxing skills, but has picked up every win of her MMA career by way of first round submission. Tweet made her pro debut against Ronda Rousey and fell victim to her notorious armbar. Now she boasts a three-fight win streak. She last fought Amanda Bell on June 1 and submitted her via rear-naked choke.
Gomes will make her third appearance inside the Invicta cage looking to stretch her current win streak to five. In her 10 wins, the Brazilian submission specialist has picked up seven wins via submission. At Invicta FC 3, Gomes submitted Katalina Malungahu with a rear-naked choke. In her most recent outing at Invicta FC 4, Gomes took home a unanimous decision victory over Hiroko Yamanaka.
Invicta FC 6 takes place on July 13th at the Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri. The main event is a rematch between Cris Cyborg and Marloes Coenen for the inaugural Invicta FC Featherweight Championship.
The event will also be televised by Integrated Sports Media at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT on both cable and satellite pay-per-view via iN Demand, DISH, Avail-TVN in the United States, as well as Bell TV in Canada, for a suggested retail price of only $14.95.
