UFC Heavyweight Shane Del Rosario is fighting for his life. After suffering an apparent heart attack, Del Rosario was hospitalized.
Just a week after the announcement came that he would have to withdraw from his planned bout at UFC 168 against Guto Inocente due to a rib injury, Del Rosario suffered an episode that caused him to collapse and required resuscitation.
In a statement released by his management, Iridium Sports, they stated that his condition is critical.
“Shane Del Rosario had a catastrophic cardiovascular collapse at home on Tuesday morning. He was brought to the hospital in full cardiac arrest. He was resuscitated in the emergency room back to a stable heart rhythm and blood pressure. He is currently in the coronary care unit critically ill. Our prayers are with him and his family.”
Del Rosario has not had an easy path in his MMA career. Back when he was in Strikeforce, he was expected to fight Daniel Cormier but was involved in a car accident which left him with a herniated disc. It took nearly a year for Del Rosario to fully recover and make his UFC debut.
In his two UFC bouts, Del Rosario lost to Stipe Miocic at UFC 146 and most recently, Pat Barry.
