A flurry of announced bouts have been flooding in all week for upcoming UFC cards. The UFC’s return to Cincinnati for the first time since 2007 and the UFC 173 pay-per-view card have added fights to their cards. Here’s the latest as confirmed by the promotion.
UFC Fight Night 40 – May 10, Cincinnati’s US Bank Arena
Two flyweight clashes were announced for the Cincinnati event. First, Darrell Montague will take on Kyogi Horiguchi.
Montague hails from California and boasts a 13-3 record. “The Mongoose” saw a 4-fight win streak snapped when he took on John Dodson in his UFC debut. He’ll look to bounce back into the win column when he takes on Japanese’s prospect, Horiguchi
Horiguchi (12-1) notched his sixth straight win with a TKO victory over Dustin Pague in his UFC debut. With 12 wins to his name, the 23-year-old has 8 wins via (T)KO.
Also added, Chris Cariaso (16-5) and Louis Smolka (7-0) will trade leather.
Cariaso is currently ranked at #9 in the UFC’s flyweight division. With back-to-back wins over Iliarde Santos and Danny Martinez, Cariaso will look to extend his win streak.
“Da Last Samurai” Smolka remains undefeated thus far. The Hawaiian native saw his hand raised in his promotional debut over Alptekic Ozkilic in January.
UFC Fight Night 40 will be headlined by a featherweight tilt between Nik Lentz and Manny Gamburyan.
UFC 173 – May 24, Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena
Featherweight Sam Sicilia (12-4) will take on promotional newcomer Doo Ho Choi (12-1). Sicilia is a TUF Live alum who is 2-3 in the UFC. Known for his heavy handed striking, Sicilia is coming off of a loss in his last fight against Cole Miller.
Ho Choi comes into the UFC having won his last 9 straight. Hailing from South Korea, the 22-year-old prospect has finished 9 opponents in his 12 wins. In fact, his last 5 wins have all been stoppages due to strikes.
UFC 173 will be headlined by a middleweight title fight pitting current champ Chris Weidman against Vitor Belfort.
