When the UFC returns to the Saitama Super Arena in Japan, two of the promotion’s hardest hitting heavyweights are expected to throw down. At UFC Fight Night 51 on Sept. 20, Mark Hunt and Roy Nelson will trade leather.
UFC president Dana White confirmed the bout is in place as the main event on Twitter. MMA Fighting was first to announce the booking citing sources close to the fight.
Roy Nelson rebounded from back-to-back losses at UFC Fight Night 39 by knocking out Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. “Big Country” is known for his big right hand. For the Las Vegas native, the trip to Japan will be his first time competing there.
On the other hand, Pride FC vet Mark Hunt will return to the arena where his professional MMA career started. He last fought Antonio Silva to a majority draw, which was later overturned to a No Contest when “Bigfoot” popped positive for banned substances. The bout was widely considered as the Fight of the Year. Following the fight, Hunt broke his hand.
We’ll keep posting updates for the upcoming fight card as news becomes available.
