Rory MacDonald and Tarec Saffiedine headline UFC Fight Night 54

Two top-ranked welterweights will meet in a head on confrontation at UFC Fight Night 54 in Halifax, Canada. Rory MacDonald and Tarec Saffiedine are booked as the main event for the Nova Scotia fight card on Oct. 4.

The UFC announced the bout bound for the Halifax Metro Centre on their website.

After a Fight of the Night performance at UFC 170, where MacDonald swept the scorecards against Demian Maia, the Canadian then defeated Tyron Woodley at at UFC 174 in Vancouver. Now ranked at #2 in the division, the 25-year old is poised to put himself in line for a title shot with another win.

Hailing from Belgium, Saffiedine has won 5 consecutive contests coming into the 5-round main event. In his promotional debut at UFC Fight Night 34, “The Sponge” took Fight of the Night for his performance over Hyun Gyu Lim. The former Strikeforce Welterweight Champion was then tapped to collide with Jake Ellenberger at UFC 172, but withdrew due to an injury. Saffiedine is currently ranked at  #10.

No other announcements have been made yet for the UFC’s first fight card in Halifax.
