Dennis Siver will meet a new opponent at UFC Fight Night 53 on just one week’s notice. Originally, he was slated to meet Robert Whiteford, who was replaced by Taylor Lapilus two weeks ago. Instead promotional newcomer Charles Rosa will replace Lapilus, as reported on UFC.com on Monday.
As per the UFC’s explanation, “The Swedish Mixed Martial Arts Federation ruled that Lapilus, fighting out of Paris France, was not a suitable opponent for Siver.” No further details were given as to why he was removed from the event.
Rosa, 28, is undefeated with a 9-0 record. Having fought mostly under the CES MMA banner, Rosa has finished all but one of his fights in the first round. Training out of American Top Team, Rosa last competed in August at CES MMA 25. He submitted Jake Constant with an armbar inside the opening round of action.
Siver returns from a 9 month suspension imposed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Following his win over Manny Gamburyan at UFC 168, Siver tested positive for HcG (human chorionic gonadotropin), a banned substance. His win was overturned to a No Contest as a result of his infraction. The German featherweight is 2-1, 1 NC since dropping down to the division.
Headlining the main card from the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden is a 5-round welterweight contest between Gunnar Nelson and Rick Story. The event will air in its entirety on UFC Fight Pass on Oct. 4.
