Two fighters were in need of opponents for this Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 54 event in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Mitch Gagnon was expected to collide with Rob Font and Patrick Holohan was on tap to meet Louis Gaudinot, but Font and Gaudinot withdrew due to injury. Answering the call to face Gagnon is Roman Salazar. Nova Scotia native Chris Kelades steps in against Holohan.
The UFC announced the changes recently.
Salazar (9-2) takes on Canada’s Gagnon (11-2). Training out of Fight Ready MMA and Fitness in Scottsdale, Ariz., Salazar comes in to his promotional debut with a 4-fight win streak. He’s finished his last two opponents with guillotine chokes inside the opening round of action. Meanwhile, Gagnon is on a 3-fight win streak which includes a Submission of the Night bonus over Dustin Kimura.
Kelades (7-1) will take on “The Hooligan” who remains undefeated at 10-0-1. Aside from a one-time bout with Bellator, Kelades most recently fought with Extreme Cage Combat in Nova Scotia. In 7 wins, the 33-year-old has stopped 5 opponents. Holohan made his UFC debut in his native Dublin where he racked up his eighth first round finish by submitting Josh Sampo. All but two of Holohan’s victories have come by way of submission.
