Another pivotal lightweight battle has been added to the UFC Fight Night event bound for Boston’s TD Garden. As first reported by the Boston Herald and confirmed on UFC Tonight, Benson Henderson (21-4) will go toe-to-toe with Eddie Alvarez (25-4) on Jan. 18.
Henderson vs. Alvarez will be the FOX Sports 1 card’s co-main event.
Former UFC lightweight champion, Benson Henderson, will look to rebound from his loss to Rafael dos Anjos. That night marked the first time “Smooth” had ever been knocked out in his MMA career. Prior to that, he had won back to back fights with wins over Josh Thomson and Rustam Khabilov respectively.
Alvarez is on the hunt for his first win in the Octagon. The former Bellator lightweight champion dropped a decision to Donald Cerrone in his promotional debut at UFC 178. The Blackzilians trained athlete had won 3 straight prior to the loss.
UFC Fight Night 59 on Jan. 18 will feature a featherweight showdown in the main event when Conor McGregor collides with Dennis Siver.
Additionally, other bouts announced by UFC.com for the event include lightweights Jorge Masvidal and Norman Parke and a rematch between middleweights Costas Philippou and Uriah Hall.
